Dr Eleni Iacovidou (Brunel) is a Lecturer in Environmental Management at Brunel University London, leading teaching on environmental governance, management and sustainable development. Her work focuses on performing holistic and integrated sustainability assessments of resources and waste management systems using a system-of-systems approach. Simply put, this approach combines environmental science and engineering with an understanding of the economic, social, political, organisational and institutional aspects that act synergistically in resource recovery systems and shape the way processes and structures operate within them. Her research aims to support decision-making processes and highlight areas of intervention for promoting sustainability. Specific research areas include: plastics and plastic packaging waste; food waste; construction and demolition materials, components and waste; and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
She is a chemist on the background, with expertise on environmental engineering and environmental management research following studies at the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete and the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London
